IKE'S LOVE FOR THE NEW GIRL IN TOWN LEADS TO DEADLY CONSEQUENCES...

Ike is hanging out in the saloon, sketching pictures when a young woman enters and begins to berate her father who appears to be a compulsive gambler. Ike is fascinated with the young woman, Emily. She leaves but her father Metcalfe continues the poker game. He loses to a man named Neville who turns out to be a cheat. Metcalfe exposes Neville and gets back his money. On their way home, Emily and her father are waylaid by Neville who tries to steal their money. Ike, however, has followed them so he was able to save Emily and her dad from Neville.

Ike is smitten with the young woman, and she appears to return his interest. She visits him at the bunkhouse and thanks him for saving her and her father. Ike asks her to go with him to the town dance. She accepts. But Ike still wants to see her before the dance, so he goes to their place on the outskirts of town and helps her fix up their house and barn.

That night, Neville sneaks into the Metcalfe's place and burns the barn. Emily's father arrives the next day (he was supposed to buy a mule, but lost the money to gambling) and says sorry to his daughter but she is tired of his apologies. Emily and Ike know that Neville set the barn on fire but they don't have proof. Ike confronts Neville but he merely taunts him . Teaspoon intervenes.

Emily doesn't want to go to the dance anymore but Ike fetches her. At the dance, the riders are having a wonderful time. Lou drops her male disguise and draws some admiring looks from the town's young men. Kid and Hickok protect her secret by saying she was only passing through town. Ike and Emily leave the dance to spend a quiet moment together.

Meanwhile, a drunk Metcalfe calls on Neville. He draws first but Neville is quicker. Metcalfe dies but Teaspoon can't arrest Neville because an eyewitness reluctantly testifies that it was Metcalfe called the gambler out. Emily is devastated. She buries her father and proceeds to exact revenge on Neville. Ike realizes her plan and tires to stop her. He ends up getting shot by Neville instead.

Ike is fatally wounded. Furious, Buck goes after Neville and shoots him in cold blood. The witness -- who saw Neville shoot Metcalfe -- chooses to lie this time to save Buck. He tells Teaspoon he didn't see what happened. Teaspoon warns Buck that he will never be the same again after killing a man. The riders hold a funeral pyre for Ike.
