A House Divided

THE PONY EXPRESS RIDERS FIND THEMSELVES CLOSER TO WAR AS THEY MOVE TO A NEW TOWN...

A group of masked men who declare themselves as abolitionists attack and burn the Pony Express station in Rock Creek, Nebraska. When Russell, Majors and Wadell ask Teaspoon to send two of his boys to Rock Creek to rebuild the station, Jimmy and Kid get the job. Teaspoon tells them to look for his friend, Marshall Ben Turner, if they need help in that town.

The two riders arrive in Rock Creek and find the station totally burned down. They decide to build a station near town. They seek out the Marshall and introduce themselves. He welcomes them warmly and invites them to dinner at this house. While cooling off at the saloon, Kid and Jimmy are approached by two reporters of the Plains Courier. Matthew Fitzgerald accuse Jimmy of being a hired gun employed by abolitionists. Jimmy, of course, denies this and a scuffle ensues.

During dinner at the Turner house that night, Carla (Ben's wife) tells the boys what a difficult job her husband has -- caught between abolitionists and slavers. Marshall Turner also discusses his problems and Jimmy and Kid get the feeling that he is leaning towards the slavers.

The next day, the two riders are approached by a young man who sells horses. Gardner tells Jimmy and Kid he has the best stock in the territory. Some men from the town interrupt them, however, and harass Gardner whom they accuse of hiding slaves in his ranch. Kid and Jimmy try to help Gardner but when the Marshall arrives, he accuses them of starting trouble.

The mood in town gets to Jimmy and Kid. They promise each other that they won't be divided like the town has been. Hickok turns in early, while Kid remains at the saloon. Jimmy find a message from Harris -- one of the reporters from the Plains Courier -- that he wants to meet. Jimmy goes to the Plains Courier office but doesn't find anybody. In an alley, he finds Harris already dead. Ben Turner arrives and arrests Jimmy.

Fitzgerald rallies to the crowd against Jimmy. A mob wants to lynch him but Turner says the boy has to stand trial. Teaspoon and Cody arrive. Jimmy tells Teaspoon what happened. Teaspoon asks Ben to turn Jimmy over to him, but the Marshall says no.

The masked group wreak havoc again, killing Gardner and burning his ranch down. Fitzgerald is revealed to be one of the masked riders. Kid finds Gardner's body the next day. He also finds some tracks, one of which he matches with another track he found at the burned Pony Express station. Teaspoon tells the Marshall the fight is not between slavers and freestaters, that an outlaw gang is just using the fight as cover. Ben Turner realizes who the leader of the outlaw gang is and confronts Fitzgerald. Turner gets killed, however.

Teaspoon approaches Fitzgerald and tells him about the suspicious mark Kid found at the site of both attacks. Fitzgerald falls for the trap. Later that night, Teaspoon, Cody, Kid and Jimmy surprise the outlaw gang which was preparing for another attack. They kill them all, including Matthew Fitzgerald.

Clara Turner leaves town. Teaspoon tells her he and the boys will be staying in Rock Creek and that the other riders will be joining them soon.
