JIMMY HICKOK IS GIVEN THE CHANCE TO FOLLOW HIS FATHER'S FOOTSTEPS, FIGHTING FOR THE ABOLITIONISTS' CAUSE...

In Kansas City, a wagon full of slaves and slave traders is attacked by a gang of abolitionists led by Isiah Burke. The abolitionists save the slaves and kill the traders. Back in Rock Creek, Jimmy is preparing to ride for Kansas to see his pregnant sister, Celinda. Kid offers to ride with Jimmy since Teaspoon has a special dispatch for him. Jimmy urges Kid to hurry up so he won't have to deal with the other riders who are having too much fun with his impending "uncle-hood".

Once the riders get to Kansas, Jimmy starts warning the Kid about the eccentricities of his birthplace. When they stop at a house to get their horses water, they are nearly shot by an old woman and her black help. Apparently, her family had all been killed by abolitionists so she is taking extra precautions. As soon as the riders reach Leavenworth, they part ways -- Jimmy to meet with Celinda and her husband, Kid to his special dispatch.

Jimmy and his brother-in-law Nathan are talking about "the cause" when a woman comes in. Jimmy's attention is instantly caught but he is disappointed when he finds out Rosemary is married... to Isiah Burke. Nathan takes Jimmy to an abolitionists meeting and introduces him to Isiah. The leader invites Jimmy to ride with them, but the rider turns down the offer. Isiah then asks Jimmy to assist his wife in buying medical supplies since most of his men are already under suspicion. To this, Jimmy agrees. On their way back from the apothecary, Jimmy and Rosemary talk about Isiah and their marriage. Rosemary tells Jimmy that Isiah was once a pacifist but the death of their son, Michael, changed him.

Isiah announces the plan to attack Crown Point, the main camp of a bunch of slave traders. Isiah plans to use his wife as a way to get inside of the heavily-guarded compound, but plans go awry and Rosemary is captured. Jimmy rides out to save Rosemary, blowing the abolitionists' cover. Though his wife is saved, Isiah is furious that they weren't able to save the slaves. Jimmy is confused with Isiah's attitude and argues with him. Isiah tells him to leave. But Rosemary talks to him and asks him not to . Jimmy and Rosemary admit to their growing attraction to each other.

Meanwhile, Kid sees a wanted poster for Isiah. He quickly rides to Celinda's place. He arrives just in time to see Jimmy leaving with Nathan. Kid tries to dissuade Jimmy from riding with Isiah, telling Jimmy that the abolitionist leader is a murderer. Jimmy ignores his friend's pleas and leaves.

Isiah and his men attack Crown Point but the slave traders are ready and waiting. Many of the abolitionists are killed and Isiah is taken as captive. Jimmy and the other men retreat. On their way back, they meet up with Rosemary and Kid. Rosemary warns Nathan that the army is already looking for him. Jimmy tells the men he is going back for Isiah. Kid decides to help him out. Together, they manage to break into the compound and save Isiah. When they get back to camp, Isiah cries and begs Rosemary's forgiveness. Rosemary tells Jimmy she will never forget him. "Sure you will," answers Jimmy as he and Kid ride prepare to ride back to Rock Creek.
