Comments: "We have used Math-U-See for seven years. having home educated for more than ten
years with three children. We did the usual classroom textbook approach to math and it failed
miserably because the texts were geared towards teaching in a class not one-on-one. Steve Demme and
Math-U-See helped us to see the benefit of teaching to the skill level of the child, not to the
textbook or test. Mr. Demme's teaching style is EXCELLENT! He is humorous and keeps demonstrating
new ways for us to SEE math.
The manipulative blocks are used all the way to Algebra 1 which Saxon, Bob Jones and other stop
after 3rd grade, which I do not understand. The Fraction Overlay kit truly turned the light on for
me and my kids. All of my kids have tested above grade level. I just have to remember to teach the
kids for mastery (something that is crucial to the success of Math-U-See), when I do that it works
great. When I slip into the just show'em routine it doesn't work as well (my fault not the
program's). I have not found it to be weak in any area except calendar, which is easily remedied by
my own household daily activities. Areas like time and money we taught so well my kids got it
quickly.
I strongly recommend this program for anyone who has a visual, auditory or hands-on learner. You
can call the company and they will send you a demo video, it sold me. There is also a good group on
Yahoo that is all about Math-U-See, just go to Yahoo groups and type in Math-U-See, they will answer
any questions you have and even some reps reply at times."

Comments: "I'd started with Saxon, which made me feel very secure,
since it covered everything so thoroughly and gave me a script to follow. My
girls were enthusiastic, but then terribly bored, as its "spiral"
approach was too slow. I switched to MathUSee and Singapore Math, and now they
LOVE math, and so do I! In fact, I'm really using three programs: we start with
the Saxon meeting book, which covers the calendar, graphs, time, money,
left/right, and so on, and then we do one MUS lesson, and on the back of that
page, we do one Singapore lesson. It takes less than half an hour, and they are
so satisfied! I think we've found just the right balance of depth and breadth,
in that the lessons are brief, but there's no way to move forward until a
concept is mastered. Bottom line, however: every child is different, and you
have to adapt the curriculum to the child, and not the other way around."

Comments: "We used Math-U-See this year as I wanted a program where I could
teach once a week and let them work on that concept for the rest of the week
pretty independently. We have loved it. My 1st grader did Foundations, while my
4th grader did Intermediate. Math is given to them in manageable chunks. The
work each day takes about 30 minutes. I have not had any problems getting them
to do the work. The few things it is 'weak' in, I supplemented with life
situations ( calendar, money, time skills)."

Comments: "I was very excited about this when I was first introduced to it.
I used it with my son for a year and a half. He became very bored and was not at
all interested in math at all. I switched to saxon for grade 3 and we are both
very happy now. I feel like he did not learn all the math concepts he needed.
Math-U-See is great for help in learning a concept that won't "stick"
but I will only use it a a supplement for the next 5 kids."

Comments: "I started Math-U-See when my daughter was in K5 primarily
because I was looking for a hands-on math program. We enjoyed the K5 program,
although its down-side was that the student text was plain black and white. I
was warned by a staff person at SCAIHS that this program was not complete, and
that I should supplement with other various materials. I did not understand what
she meant until I purchased and began using the first grade program. I became
increasingly disappointed with the first grade program and felt that it lacked
basic skills, such as counting money and clock reading, and I felt it moved too
fast in other areas. I ended up stopping the first grade program after using it
only three weeks and purchased the first grade program in Saxon, with which I am
very happy."
