Comments: "I have been using several of the Steck-Vaughn books over the last five years, and have found them interesting, easy to use, and inexpensive. The materials are secular in nature, but they are not anti-Christian or anti-Bible. The Social Studies curriculum ties Bible personalities and places into their World History books. There is no evolution in the science books. Chapters can be covered quickly and independently by the student, with assessments throughout the chapter, and tests at the end of each chapter. Most of the books are written at a reading level that is at or slightly below grade level to encourage student interest. Their social studies, science and phonics systems are excellent.
The only drawback is that the social studies curriculum requires a lot of supplement to give the student a well-rounded educational experience. We use the library, and have used The Light and the Glory and Streams of Civilizations, among others, to supplement. But these series definitely provide the core of knowledge a student needs at each grade level."
