Cautious Fuzz

Notes: I'm actually very proud of this particular page. There's a lot going on, and none of it really draws attention to itself. As with movie special effects, the trick in creating an effect in the comics is to do so without having the audience NOTICE what you're doing. Here I use the multiple-frames-for-one-picture trick again to create the feeling of panning across Omnivore's face, but between frames I cut in a relatively static shot of Rob Adler (I think the page would have been improved if I'd had the technology to copy and paste the EXACT same image every time). Quick cuts. Back and forth. Like watching a tennis match. Each frame is the same size, except for the final one. I'd hoped that this would have created the feeling of a longer shot (both visually and chronologically) as we watch Omnivore leave the room. In order to have achieved that, though, I think I should have made his exit near the far right of the panel. Oh well, live and learn.
Another purposeful effect is the shading in the first panel. The darkness, which Omnivore stepped out of on the previous page, is supposed to look like it's rising from the floor as he steps back away from Adler. He's cloaking himself in the darkness to seem more ominous. (Hmmm ... that would have been a good first name for him ... "Ominous Omnivore.")
I also like the dialog on this page ... or actually, I like the silence. I'd have drawn that out more if I could have figured out a way to create the feeling of Adler and Omnivore staring one another down (well, one that wasn't just a boring repetition of the same two shots over and over again ... if only Omnivore's face was even WIDER).
