Cautious Fuzz
![]()
Notes: Here it is ... the second use of actual zip-o-tone! Pretty snazzy, eh?
I realize looking at this panel, I have no idea what this band would sound like. A guitar, a bass, a sax, a drum machine, and four synths. Weird!
Again you can see me using the borderless frame to create the feeling of wide open space (panel #2). And again you can see me being lazy about setting the scene (panel #3 ... what kind of crowd is THAT?). But panel #4 does have an interesting bit of detail. How many of you noticed that the white reflection in Rob Adler's eye (yes, that IS supposed to be Adler) is actually the macro-chip?
What 20th century philosopher wrote those words? Berke Breathed, of course! The man behind Bloom County and Outland was a HUGE influence on my cartooning and humor styles.
Something you don't know, is that Breathed is actually the second historical writer to pen lyrics for Droxine and the crew. Before I ever started working on Cautious Fuzz the comic, I used Cautious Fuzz the band in an art class assignment to put the text of Robert Frost's poem "Fire and Ice" into a cartoon. I used the poem as the lyrics in a "video" for the band. Maybe I'll put that up in the Sketches forum when I'm done serializing the comic. So far, it's the ONLY color Cautious Fuzz material I've done.
