Cautious Fuzz

PreviousNext

Notes: Pages 18 and 19 were printed as a two-page spread. So while I'm looking at them individually now, the overall effect was quite different in the comic.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with this page. It does, however, make pretty clear my impatience with drawing backgrounds. I mean, in each of the first three panels (which are supposed to be candid scenes from inside Club Mutante) there's only a single visual element. THAT'S no way to draw "scene setting" images. I really used the cross-hatching as a crutch ... trying to substitute texture for substance. Now, VISUALLY it works ... but it really is a lazy trick.
Looking at it now, I really tried to cram too much text into the last panel (and it gets even MORE abusive when you see the first panel of page 19). But other than cleaning up my sloppy lettering, I don't know how I could have avoided this problem. The details of the "bigger on the inside than outside" nature of Club Mutante becomes pretty important before the comic ends. (Oops! Does that count as a spoiler?)
