Cautious Fuzz

PreviousNext

Notes: If there's one page in Cautious Fuzz that feels like a rock'n'roll movie (like a Beatles or Elvis film), it's this one. NONE of the panels really speak to one another visually. Odd cross-hatch patterns, unexplained spot lights, ordinary backgroungs, and even pointilism stand side by side by side.
Although I like panel #5, it would have been BETTER if I had used zip-o-tone. Still, the cross-hatching manages to get across the idea that tiny Club Mutante is more important that the giant buildings around it.
I LOVE the introduction "... asexual creatures great and small" ... heh ... that STILL makes me chuckle. As I often do, I've made the crowd a mixture of odd original creatures and interesting cameos by characters from comic artists I admire. Left to right they are: Vic Beef (a character from a one of my first college comic strips, Eggnog & Co.), unnamed original rhino guy and bug lady, Cynicalman (from the comic book of the same name, written and drawn by Matt Feazel if my memory is correct), Rob Adler, Ron Post (from Matt Howarth's brilliant Those Annoying Post Bros. comic. I thought it was important to give a nod to Howarth ... his Kief Llama stories were a MAJOR influence on Cautious Fuzz, although Kief herself didn't seem an appropriate guest star), and finally some odd blonde alien.
