Notes: Rimshot
is still one of my favorite characters. Not only is he an expressive little
furball that's fun to draw, but he ONLY speaks in sound effects! It was
a bit of a challenge to find things for him to say that actually ADDED
to the scene (some of them are sort of "in jokes") ... but at the same
time it was a lot of fun! I can't take credit for coming up with this idea.
I first came across it (in the comics medium) in a giant talking potato
Tom Stazer's wonderful independent comic Spaced.
While I like
this page in general (especially the close-up panel of Rob Adler ... in
case you hadn't noticed before, I have a "thing" for borderless panels),
there are several elements that just seem so rushed. The lamp in panel
#4 is insanely unbalanced. The crosshatching in panel #5 is uneven in every
way possible. And the "oh" word balloon in panel #6 is placed in a TERRIBLY
(really ... admit it ... you completely missed it when you first read the
page). If there's one thing I've learned in the intervening years it's
that patience and a few minutes of scanning the details REALLY pay off
in the long run! Oh ... and ALWAYS spellcheck (no there's nothing on THIS
page that I know of, but I'm well known among friends and colleagues for
really silly spelling gaffs that could have easily been caught .... wouldn't
be surprised if there were a bunch here on the Stannex, too).
