What's it going to take for you to do more? Or for some, to do anything. At every level of government or society. I'm not playing Chicken Little, I'm not crying that it's the end of the world here, but the hypocracy, laziness and hate that is the order of the day...at what point will it make you (and me) do more?
Sure, I post little things on this little blog - and I'm sure somewhere in Washington there's a "file" on it. But I physically could be in the streets. I don't have a family that's dependent on me. Sure, you'll never vote for
those who are responsible, but will you vote for
real people of change? Will you give to their campaigns? Help get them on the ballot? Will you stop buying products because they're cheap or convenient?
Will you start paying attention to your Town Board/City Council? Do you have time? Are people counting on you being too busy? What's involved enough?
At what point are you willing to say out loud - hell - even to yourself that your country is fucked? If you're Jewish, that Israel needs to get it's shit together. If you're a cop that you have an added responsiblity to treat "the masses" with respect and dignity, even when they don't treat you that way. Will you call someone on their boorish behavior? You have a bumper sticker, isn't that enough? Is it?
I don't know. I'm just getting overwhelmed by the pervasiveness of the perversity. How about this...each week, do ONE thing more to make the world better. Make ONE trip to the Co-op to buy stuff for dinner, check out ONE candidate whose ideals you
really agree with and, no matter what party, throw her $25. Write one letter to the editor - even if it's only one paragraph. Just do ONE thing more each week.

Damn, when will Democrats get some freakin stones? Why won't some of these Senators vote for a bill to get our troops out of Iraq when they
allegedly agree that is has to end?
Check out the article.

In the movie
Tapeheads, there was a scene of a political ad where the Senator was surrounded by children in a circle and he was putting cigarettes in each kid's mouth like a priest gives communion. It was satire, but it reminds me of what I've started seeing now.
Some ridiculous group is putting out TV & internet ads with little kids talking about "Clean Coal". I think I've posted on this before.
Clean coal sounds like some lame-ass comedian's idea of funny. "Hey! What's the deal with Jumbo Shrimp?" Hey, what's the deal with this Clean Coal?
This is another instance of idiots who believe that something is legit/true because it's on TV. I wonder if anyone's ever done a study to come up with a percentage of how much on TV is BS. Now THAT would be a worthwhile study.

I...uh...well...it's a start...I guess.
Popular music has always been the scourage of youth. Adults thought Sinatra & Elvis were evil back in the day and it goes on and on. I guess the difference between a lot of corporate hip-hop and the music back in the day is that a lot of the stuff today is extremely materialistic and violent whereas the other stuff was about getting laid...generally.
So when I see someone known for being an icon in the corporate hip-hop world standing up for something and taking action I tend to take notice. Hurray! Jay-Z is calling for a boycott of...
Cristal Champagne...
Oh.
Yeah...I'm all over that,
Shawn. Hey Shawn, that French dude didn't say he didn't want black people to buy Cristal, he said he wasn't thrilled about the image of his product being linked to the corporate hip-hop image. It's YOU who said it's racial, which means it's YOU who says that the violence and materialism is what black people are all about.
Poor Shawn...now he & Beyonce have to sip Dom Perignon.
Ass.

As an underemployed teacher, I tell all my students to not believe every word I say. Well, that's not true...I tell them that I have a bias - we all do - so that what I say or how I structure my class is for a specific purpose. The same goes for all teachers, reporters, journalists, etc. Their/my goal may be to LOOK unbiased, but the words, inflection & style of communication one chooses gives a specific perspective.
Having said all this, it's pretty said that if a person on TV, radio or in the newspaper says something, everyone takes it at face value. Take
this for example. Or everything The War Criminal has ever said. Or everything any politician, CEO or journalist has said.
But where does the cynicism end? If you take this to it's logical conclusion, then when someone tells us that he/she loves us then you wonder what's their motivation for it. I sure don't want to live in a world like that (though I sometimes think I already do - which would explain a lot).
On the other hand, not trusting what anyone says sure is a lot safer these days. What's a simple boy like me supposed to do?

This is killer. Michael Berg is the father of
Nick Berg, the American who was kidnapped & killed in Iraq...uh...a year ago? Maybe two? With the killing of al-Zarqawi, who killed the younger Berg, CNN thought they would get a bloodthirsty
yahoo from the Dad. Nope.
Check
this out. This is class, my friend.
Oh yeah...did I mention that Berg is
running for Congress in Delaware...
as a Green! He's the kind of people we need in Washington.

Appearently Air America is co-sponsoring something called
Take Back America where progressives are supposed to flock to Washington for a 3 day conference to hug, strategize and congratulate each other. In Air America's on-air ads for this, the highlighted people who are going to be there are (in order): Hillary Clinton, John Kerry & Harry Reid.
Uhhhhh...huh?
Progressive? Hillary "send more troops to Iraq, wilt to anti-choice lobby & cozy to Ruppart Murdoch" Clintonbagger? John "Douchebag" Kerry? Wha? It's a free country (allegedly), so if they go that's fine. But why would you use
them as the key participants? Joe Lieberman too busy that weekend?
On a semi-related note - look...I'm not dismissing global warning. Just the opposite. I'm tree-hugger guy, remember? But Al Gore's movie is my next Farenheit 9/11. The first person who gasps in horror because I haven't seen it yet is getting poked in the eye.
Al Gore had eight freakin years to work on global warming. He & Bubba actually made things worse...his family has been cozying up to oil companies for years. Granted, The War Criminal has been absolutely ridiculous in terms of the environment, but it pisses me off that everyone's kissing Gore's ass right now.
