An Epic Saga - Part Two

When last we left our tawdry tale of tarnished lives, the date was Thursday, and one Michael Vreeland had just admitted that any trip to a Monday TICKERTAPE PARADE  would be pre-empted by a test he had to take.  This came in staunch opposition to his earlier position of indifference to schoolwork.

"Mike!," I said incredulously, "You said you would go no matter what!"

"I know," he replied, "but I can't miss this test.  I guess I could write him and ask him to let me take it later."

Leaving Mike typing an email to his teacher, I went back up to my room to investigate the matter with further diligence.  And, lo and behold, as I read the story at CNN.com, I found that the date of the parade *was not* Monday!  Mike wouldn't have to reschedule his test, and we were free and clear!

Right???

Wrong.

The parade wasn't on Monday, that was surely true.  But when was it?

Saturday?

Nope.

Sunday?

Nope.

Friday.

The day after Thursday.

To arrive for its 11:30 AM start, we would need to: corral other people to share expenses, find transportation to, from, and within New York City, find a place to sleep at some point, plot our course of travel, and then make it there safely and early enough to have it be worth our while.

We had 18 hours.
