OK...I know Randi Rhodes isn't a racist...Andy Rooney? I have no idea. Don't care.
At this very moment,
Randi Rhodes is talking about stuff that's fucked up with the military. (she's a former member of the Air Force, btw) And she's right on with most of it. But I have a problem with one of her arguments...having listened to her show a bit, I'm guessing she just didn't think all of this through.
She's praising the calcified Andy Rooney and some thing he did on military recruiters.
Check it out first. His argument that the military is recruiting "losers" is racist, classist and ignorant. Because now people who never went to high school and felons are categorized as "losers". (most of these folks are people of color)
People are now "felons" because of minor drug offenses thanks to mandatory drug sentencing. Stuff that Randi herself admits to doing. And if you get me going on why these "losers" didn't go to high school I'll be here all day. But to generalize and call all of these people "losers"...f-you and your family too.
And Andy (and Randi and others) call for reinstituting the draft. No...no...no. Yes, I get the idea that if the draft is back then people will hit the streets in protest against the war, etc. And I realize my argument may sound trite, but two wrongs don't make a right. If one more person dies in a war because of the draft who wouldn't have died otherwise, then it's wrong. Period.
Now, she just included the Green Party in her list of people who haven't been thinking about going into Iraq...what the hell is she talking about????? The Green Party was the ONLY party who opposed this from the beginning! I usually agree with her, but her reasoning is all over the place on this.
This whole thing ignores the situation that rules this entire argument. Our so-called leaders are war criminals, they need to be impeached, arrested and imprisoned, but our other so-called leaders will only do surface shit...which I've blogged about numerous times.
