I suppose a brief explanation of the technique is in order. Word Salad, also referred to as "Toasty Stories" is an interesting and fun way of writing stories for our own amusement, and that of other people as well. The technique is simple. Although variations can and do occur, the most common incarnation of word salad is thus -- A group of people sit around a table. One at a time, each person submits a word to the story. You continue going around the table until the story is completed. The only rule of a Toasty story is that the resulting sentences must be grammatically correct. As a rule, the fewer authors involved, the more coherent the story. Most of the stories in this section of my page were written by two or three people; the most common group being, Michael Griffin and myself, although my ex-wife Della Boynton, Lon Lentz, Guy Gentry, Nathan Kelly, and others contributed to these stories too. Those that involved many people, are attributed to the Toasty-Fried Co-Op. Although many of these stories seem quite random in nature, in time, a stable cast of characters emerge. Notable standout characters include Max, Biff and various members of the Toasty-Fry. At any rate, enjoy these. I hope you have as much fun reading them as we did writing them. |
