[exceptional cases]で間違っていませんが、[exceptions]と一語で 言ってしまった方がすっきりします。 【添削例】 ->[In fact, we can see a lot of (many) exceptions.] ───────────────────────────────────── ■It seems that some workers in my company have worked on holidays. ───────────────────────────────────── 【解説】 1. ここの[workers]ですが、ちょっと「労働者」というニュアンスが強くなるので、 [colleagues]「同僚」や[employees]「従業員」にした方がいいかもしれません。 2. [have worked]と現在完了を使われていますが、ここでは不適切です。現在完了 を使うと「今までに休日出勤をしてしまっている」という意味になりますが、問題 文は「現在もしている」ということを前提にしていますから、現在形にするべきです。 【添削例】 ->[It seems that some of my colleagues work on holidays.] ───────────────────────────────────── ■I suppose that not a few people want to get their places of work ■where they are not required to work overtime and on holidays. ───────────────────────────────────── 【解説】 1. ここは最初を[I suppose]とか[I guess]とかで始めるとうまくいきます。 2. [not a few]を使っていますね。グー。 3. [their places of work]というのはちょっと言いません. [a place of work] ではなくて、[a workplace]となります。また、[a position]でも「勤め口」という 意味になっていいです。 4. [work overtime]という風に、[overtime]を副詞で使うのはいいです。 5. 最後の[work overtime and on holidays]という部分ですが、文全体では「否定 文」ですから、[work overtime or on holidays]という風に[and]を[or]に変える必 要があります。そして、[holidays]には[their]を付け加えるといいです。 【添削例】 ->[I suppose that not a few people want to get a position where they are not required to work overtime or on their holidays.] ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ***2 Komatsubaraさんの英語 ───────────────────────────────────── ■Most people take the holiday on Saturdays and Sundays for granted, ■but many cases are not popular in practice. ───────────────────────────────────── 【解説】 1. 最初の部分は、[take something for granted]という言い方ですね。これを使 うのは良いですが、[the holiday]は[their holidays]と複数にした方がいいですね。 2. [many cases are not popular in practice]という部分はちょっと間違いです。 このままだと「多くのケースは実際には人気がない」というよく意味のわからない文 になってしまいます。[many cases]を使う場合には、 [There are many cases where ...]として、次に[it is not true in practice]など とつなげればいいでしょう。 ->[Most people take their holidays on Saturdays and Sundays for granted, but there are many cases where it is not true in practice.] ───────────────────────────────────── ■Some staff members probably work in my company on the holidays. ───────────────────────────────────── 【解説】 1. [in my company]の位置が違っています。[Some staff members in my company] とする必要があります。 2. [probably]を使っているのはいいのですが、この場合現在形の[work]だけだと 「休日出勤をしている」という「状況」のニュアンスが出ません。こういう場合、 現在進行形にするといいでしょう。 3. [the holidays]だと「いつの休日か」がわかりませんから、「週末に」として [on weekends]としましょう。 【添削例】 ->[Some staff members in my company are probably working on weekends.] ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ***3 kimiさんの英語 ───────────────────────────────────── ■No few people hope that they could choice the company not to work ■overtime and not to work on the holidays. ───────────────────────────────────── 【解説】 1. [no few people]という言い方はできません。[not a few people]ですね。 2. [hope]のあとにthat節を取る場合に、that節の主語が主節の主語と重なる場合 はto不定詞にした方がすっきりします。例を見てみましょう。 ->[I hope that I can get a day off on Sundays.] ->[I hope to get a day off on Sundays.] 3. [not to work ...]の部分は、このままでは前の部分とつながりません。関係 副詞を持ってきて、「〜する必要がない会社」という風にする必要があります。 ここでは[a company where there is no ...]とすればいいでしょう。 【添削例】 ->[Not a few people hope to choose a company where there is no overtime or work on their holidays.] ───────────────────────────────────── ■Most of all the people think it is general that they can be off ■on Saturdays and Sundays, but actually it is not in many cases. ───────────────────────────────────── 【解説】 1. [Most of all the people]というのは意味がよくわかりません。 [the people]とは誰のことを指すのか？という疑問が浮かんできてしまいます。 単に「多くの人」という場合には[most people]とします。 2. [it is general that ...]という言い方もあまりしません。 「〜は一般的である」という意味で使われているのだと思いますが、その場合には [it is generally true that ...]などという風になります。[genearl]の代わりに [common]を使ったり、[ordinary]などを使ってみてもいいでしょう。 その場合、後はthat節をとるよりもto不定詞を使って[to have holidays on ...] とした方がいいです。 3. [but actually it is not ...]の部分はとてもいいです。 ->[Most people think it is common to have holidays on Saturdays and Sundays, but actually it is not in many cases.] ───────────────────────────────────── ■It seems that a few people always work on their holidays in my office. ───────────────────────────────────── 【解説】 1. ここの[work]は上にも述べたように「現在進行形」にした方がいいです。 【添削例】 ->[It seems that a few people are always working on their holidays in my office.] ───────────────────────────────────── ■Not a few people will think that if they could choose the office ■where theyhave no extra work after their work time or on their holidays. ───────────────────────────────────── 【解説】 1. この文は、[think]を使っているため、[if]節の帰結節がないので不完全な文 になってしまっています。「少なくない人々が〜であったら、と思っている」とい う意味だと思いますが、英語では[think]を使っている場合「〜であったら、〜だろ うと思っている」という風に「帰結」を表す部分が必要です。ここは[think]を [wish]に変えるとうまくいきます。 2. [will think]と未来形にしている意味がよくわかりません。ここは現在形で構 いません。もし[〜のようだ」というニュアンスを出したい場合は、[seem to wish] でいいでしょう。 3.
