- I love my aquarium! I just went out and got a protein skimmer, full test kit, and vacuum today. That just about completes everything I'll need to get for my tank except for some live coral, invertebrates, and extra fish once the nitrogen cycle completes. I now have 5 books on the different aspects of salt water aquarium keeping and I am quickly learning that there is jack and shit available on the web about it. This is quite contrary to my experiences with just about everything else. If you have a question about just about anything in the world, a web-savvy person can quickly become an expert in no time at all after grepping the web for all it has to offer. So far, all I've been able to pull up is an ass-load of fanboy sites and other randomness. Just about all of them were hosted on AOL home pages. Go figure. I wasted quite a bit of time on pages like that before I just gave up and bought all the books I have now. I'll probably have many more before the nitrogen cycle is done on my tank. I keep having grand visions of what I would -like- to do with my tank but as I sit in front of the tank and watch my current fish and the more I read, the more complex it is becoming and I realize that most of my previous ideas are sure bet disasters. Oh well. I also just finished reading a book which focused exclusively on setting up a 30 gallon reef tank with few fish and a ton of invertebrates. Sure, coral is awesome, crabs and shrimp look neat, but I prefer tons of fish over anything else (save coral). I have always considered the 55 gallon tank as the penultimate fish tank. When I was a wee lad, I had a 10 gallon tank with a butt-load of neons. It was kinda cool but I'm amazed it survived at all. In the days of Tales From the Apartment, Jason brought home a tank that we filled with all sorts of weird stuff and they never died no matter how badly we neglected them (and we did too). In fact, I think the snail is still alive somewhere... When I was in the hospital a few years back I was given a small hexagonal aquarium and a couple of gold fish. It was more of a novelty tank and the hospital soon told me that I couldn't have it in my room anymore. Three months later they told me that they didn't want me in there anymore either and finally let my impatient ass go home. A couple years later I got a nice 20 gallon tank that I put all sorts of neons and various barbs in. That tank and most of the fish are still alive but are now in the care of my mother since I moved to Atlanta a couple years back. Just a couple of days after spending five hundred dollars on this 55 gallon setup, the fish store had an even bigger and better aquarium on display. Not in the back with the other tanks but right in front so you had to almost avoid it as you walked in. Mocking me. I coulda had a V-8! This thing has got to be 80 gallons or something! In other words, I have tank envy already. If I bought that too, I could escalate into a full fledged reef modeled after a Caribbean habitat with all sorts of exciting (and extra expensive) fish, coral, invertebrates, and groovy stuff. I think I'll wait until my credit cards aren't looming over me, I finish my plans for my 55, and we build the extension to our house that I'm so excited about. Oh yeah, maybe I'll finally get around to repainting my car like I've been threatening to do forever. I love not having any real expenses.

- I was speaking with one of my friends and she was trying to explain the complicated relationship she has with another one of my friends. She says that he tells people that they are friends. This aggravates her so I can only assume that she wants more. I can understand that, even if I think it's unusual for her but her reactions speak volumes. I could easily meddle with the situation (I love drama) and get them together. I suspect that she has been trying to flirt with guys who know him in hopes of using his jealousy to force a particular decision from him and find out -exactly- what he thinks of their relationship. I have a simple scenario which will either make or break them as a couple and the difference is only a subtle change in meaning from a handful of words. Knowing the guy though, the reaction won't be instantaneous. I would rather get them together though. To do that, all I would have to do is have a quick talk with the guy and ask him how upset he would be if someone else wanted to sleep with her since they were -just friends-. He'll be upset even if he does not voice it and all I have to do is point out that he ought to give dating her a serious chance since he is obviously disturbed by the idea of her being in another guys arms.

- I have always been a fierce protestor of people who leave their chat apps on all the god damned time. When I sign on and see people I want to chat with, I try to chat with them. More and more frequently, this is becoming a futile endeavor. All I get are no responses or auto-responses which are unoriginal. If I wanted to leave a message, I would call and talk to their answering machine. Running a computer with a constant connection and leaving the chat app open all the damned time has got to be the most expensive and uneconomical answering machine in the world. People get tired of seeing the same losers logged on and away from their computers all the damned time. So much so that it becomes common to ignore these people, delete them off the buddy lists, or conspire to have power to their house/room/dorm cut off just long enough to get them booted. One person, whosydneyshallsydneyremainsydneynameless has been online and idle for 1340 minutes now. Fuck all! An answering machine is ten bucks. On a lighter note, I like corn. Not Korn, corn. Khorn kicks ass, but hot buttered corn just plain rules all. Especially if it is some of that young barely yellow corn that is really sweet. Mmmmm... I think I'll have some corn and a baked potato for dinner tonight. By the way, this is a really difficult post to read aloud.
19:24EST-WED-3/28/2001
- Mmmm... Coffee... It's the best part of a day. A good cup of coffee can turn any dreary day into a glorious opportunity to live life to the fullest! Perhaps it is the double cream, and 8 packets of sugar I add to each cup I get from the machine which supposedly already adds extra cream and sugar at my request. Ooohhh... The colors! At this rate, I'll be diabetic by the end of the week. At least my fish are still alive. Yesterday I woke up to a rather annoying sound. Nothing. No sound whatsoever. No heaters, no lights, fans, nothing. A quick look at my fish tank proved that we had no power and the power heads (what a great term!) were not giving the tank any air. For the next two hours the power company decided to pay us back for being late on our bill by turning the power on and off to the entire city three or four more times and probably many more after we went to work or woke up. I know it was them just trying to mess with us. Bastardos! When I got home ten hours later, I found that the lights to my room and aquarium were still off and the power heads were still turned down so much that they were hardly putting any air at all into the tank. After turning on the lights I couldn't see -any- of my fish. Granted, there are only 4 right now (Nitrogen Cycle) but with only 6 pieces of coral, I would have at least been able to see one of them. I finally managed to find one of the Domino Damselfish wedged between the glass and the heater seemingly dead, the other Domino Damselfish was close by at the bottom of a coral rock, and the two Electric Damselfish were wedged into a couple other pieces of coral where I didn't think it was possible for them to fit. After about half an hour of tension and furiously hyperaerating the tank, I added food and manually forced the fish back into activity. I'll always wonder how those buggers got into the strange places they did but they are doing just dandy again and I bought a really big UPS to hook everything up to in order to keep power outages like this from fucking with my fish ever again (unless it's down for more than 4 hours). In the mean time, I will watch all the DVDs I've been getting with my bonuses from work. Kentucky Fried Movie on DVD! YEAH!
17:37EST-WED-3/28/2001
- I've always been a firm advocate of music and how important it is in ones life, but I realized today that almost none of the music I have right now in my car really moves me anymore. Every once in a while, something comes on and it's really groovy at that moment but that is becoming more and more rare. I realized shortly after reaching that conclusion exactly what I needed more of. More and more I've been finding a lot of joy in old 80s songs and various late 70s funk groups like Earth Wind and Fire. I don't know if this is a result of seeing too many CD collection commercials on Cartoon Network between 4 and 6am or from grooving out to the Muppets From Space soundtrack. I believe that everyone harbors a fondness for the music they heard when they were kids, and living with Patrick (the 80s king) certainly makes the availability of such music a daily occurrence. I hear him going through play lists on his computer as I go to bed at night (7am) and often wake up to the same. It's cool. I guess I need to burn a bunch to CD and throw them in my changer. I tend to let music influence my mood almost as much as whether or not I'm wearing my leather jacket so hopefully that will make my mornings more energizing as I drive into the sunset on my way to work.

- This sorta thing happens to me all the time.
0:41EST-MON-3/26/2001
- Do you hate daylight savings time? Do you believe that this is an outdated concept since we don't use candles and we are no longer at war? Do you hate having to change your schedule two times a year and never remember when it's supposed to happen? Want to be heard? Go here: Standard Time. Sign the petition. Read the remarks. Do stuff.

- Ever suspected that there was a Ramen Noodle Museum? Me either, but somehow I feel strangely attracted to going... I can only imagine that the cost of admission is more than the soup.

- Whew! Another surprisingly kick-ass party under our belts and we're starting to feel pretty good about our selves. As Lucas and I drove to breakfast and the fish store, we commented on the unsuspected success of this party. He didn't really tell anyone about it and Patrick didn't make a big deal about it. I told relatively few people but I tried to make sure that the key people in different circles of friends knew about it. It's amazing that they turn out so well considering how we're basically just a bunch of dorks with too much liquor and friends. Someone would almost mistake us for people with social lives. Well, I know everyone who came to the page are here to see the pics so I'll get on with it. Patrick was quite popular this time since he didn't spend the whole time in front of the computer.
He even did a good impression of a dance poll, not that any of the friends we have are strippers or anything. Still... One can day dream.
Even Dave showed up this time. We didn't even need to have him summon anyone.
Lucas defines what FUBAR means.
Once again, I was busy trying to be outgoing.
Or at least busy trying to be a freak.
And sooner or later, everything gets into my pants. Even the Action Jesus action figure. Oh, in case you are wondering, I do not apologize if you are offended.
Once again, Matt drank just a weeeee bit too much. Not entirely a bad thing since I walked in on him at one point and he had Linda in the bed with him. Too bad they were both just passed out. I'm sure Matt would have enjoyed that immensely. Who wouldn't?
Vern is a funny drunk. In case you are wondering, he's running around with a carpet knife and some WD-40. A man of action.
A close-up of the hat in action. I'll be adding his pics shortly after they get re-uploaded.
Did I mention that Vern is a funny drunk?
Everyone likes a dong. Even if you are a Briton from Claxton. Rumor has it, that she's dating Justin. He came as Heroin Bob from SLC Punk (unintentionally) but he was a good boy and is no longer on probation. Congrats, Justin.
Being saved is a little different in our group. No water, no crosses, just Jesus, a hottie, and a sharpie. What else do you need?
Here is a better pic of the finished product. Now you know you are going to hell.
Now that I look at them, the similarities are amazing.
Somebody was
giving out free
airplane rides!
Women like drawing on exposed skin.
ANY exposed skin. Yes, that is my penis. No, I have no shame.
Doesn't he look like Count Chocula? No, him on the left. Slappy. No? Oh well, just stare at the women getting drunk then.
Hey, where are those two going? Oh, never mind...
LaMount was in action.
And he was well armed.
Niki would know better than the rest of us though.
Say... That isn't your sword is it?
We even had those neat little umbrellas to put in your drinks. Tons of them in fact.
We also have a ton of pics of people dancing
but I am not going to put up
every single one of them.
Instead, I will just post a few
and wonder why I was sent quite so many.
Like this one,
and this one,
and this one,
and this one,
but this one pretty much says it all.
Mad crazy props to Vernon and Zak for taking all the pics and sending them to me for uploading to this site. Especially since I was a donut and completely forgot to bring my camera. Even after driving back to the house to get my booze and cape. It just occured to me... I -still- don't have a pic of Zak. That's two parties that he managed to avoid having his picture taken. Lemme grep the web real quick and see if I can find a high school pic of him real quick... Ok, got one!
20:50EST-SAT-3/24/2001
- I would like to congratulate Regina who came up with an answer to my question on Thursday. She says that she used to watch a series called The Fugitive. We all know this was one of Han Solos better films. I bowed down and conceded that they were able to make that one good movie based upon an earlier TV series. Even if I never heard of the series. I wondered if it had anything to do with Bill Bixby and was also known as The Hulk. That's the only fugitive type series I ever saw when I was a kid. I'm just a snot nosed little kid though and I'm good at making Regina feel old. Nevertheless, I would be honored to attend any party she holds since they are so fun. Even if I don't own any pajamas. I'm broke after setting up the aquarium so I can not afford to get any. Today I added a couple pairs of fish and some rocks to the tank and so far everything is going smoothly. Salt water fish hate plastic bags. Of the four Damsels I added, (two Domino and two Electric) the two Electric Damsels became very pale while bagged for transport but once released, they quickly sought refuge in and under the two small rocks I have in the large 55 gallon tank. A small amount of food brought them out to play and they stayed out until I went to work. If they are still cruising about the rest of the unfurnished tank by the time I get home then I'll know they're adapting well. I'll get them some more rocks and coral to play with very soon. NO I WILL NOT BE SETTING UP A WEBCAM because I think they suck. A refresh rate of 10 seconds is best for bandwidth conservation but blows for watching a tank. I know. I've tried watching a tank through one before. Very boring. Now I think I'll call in sick to work and go to my party.

- I can't believe they decided to make an A-Team movie. What a crime. I loved the A-Team when it was a series. When I first heard that there was going to be an A-Team movie, I was excited but I slowly allowed myself to come to the realization that it would just be another sad rehash of a once great and proud series. Shaft 2000 was a let-down. Charlies Angles was a let-down. Tainting the great works of Dr. Seuss by making a movie about the Grinch was a mortal sin that the writers and producers will have to live with for the rest of their hopefully short mortal lives. Episode 1 doesn't hold a candle to the original holy trilogy. Every other Star Trek movie sucks. The Dukes of Hazard movie (although not made recently) was a failure to begin with. Every Batman movie but the first one was a crime against nature and they just kept getting worse and worse. In fact, I challenge anyone to come up with an example of a series that kicked ass and managed to retain it's original glory once it has been converted to a movie. Here are the ground rules: The series can come from any time period that YOU LIVED TO SEE and the movie has to have been made within the last ten years. I'm making that distinction to prove that Hollywood USED to be cool. Remember the Battlestar Galactica series? It was cool and the movie rocked. Transformers produced a good series that was made even better by a movie which has a devout following all it's own (even if there were major plot holes which could have easily been avoided). Still, those movies came and went much much longer ago than you are ready to admit. I do not believe that a series with such rich movie plot potential will fare any better than those that tried to come before it. I will leave you now with this to think about: The Rocky and Bullwinkle Movie
22:53EST-WED-3/21/2001
- Neat-o! I just got a letter from a good friend of mine back in High School. A fellow gamer and I.T. geek who started well before I did, he is one of the people who randomly make keen observations and deductions about various things. Most memorable to me was when he figured out the mathematical formula behind the spell columns in Solar which made it incredibly easy and simple to tally build costs and leveling. He also figured out the point where trying to cap out was no longer logical. Anyway, he's lived in San Francisco for a few years now and I never figured I'd see him again. Even when he's been in town, I always seem to miss him. I remember when we used to gaffle Little Debbies from the cafeteria back in school. Maybe one of these days he'll be back in town long enough for us to drag him to one of our parties. Speaking of which, I need to make sure people are still excited about the one this Saturday. I also need to figure out who it was that took a picture of me from Hawaii and slapped on "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO ME" and then posted it online. I'm flattered to be associated with such a pop hit within the net community as All Your Base has become. If it's still popular by the time Halloween comes around, I think I'm going to go as Catz. Yeah! And now I'm going to go back to reading PVP Online.
20:39EST-TUE-3/20/2001
- Work on the house is coming slowly. Too slowly. Then again, everything comes down to whether or not I'm going to be getting my bonus or not. Most likely... Not. It's been about three weeks now and I still hadn't gotten a reply yet. I think I'm going to re-bitch. Fuckers. Just when I had pretty much resigned myself to staying in the area for a great deal of time to come. This decision came as a direct result in two things. The first is the promise of more work on the house which will finally allow me to get all my crap out of storage. This includes all my Pimp Pad Furniture and various other stuff like a real bed. The second was when I went to Harrys Aquarium yesterday and casually dropped $500 on a salt water aquarium setup that I had custom ordered for me. I'm a finicky bitch, aren't I? It should be here some time next week. Nothing glorious, just a 55 gallon tank with a nice stand and all the accoutrements. Once I finish cycling the tank, I'll start building it up with a good deal of coral. That should be fun. Previously I was just interested in the fish but now I'm actually becoming quite interested in the coral formations as well. Moving with a 55 gallon salt water fish tank is an impossibility so I guess I had better start reevaluating my options for continuing to live and work around this area. In a few ways I have begun to feel more secure and happy to be semi-permanent again in the area with all my friends and back in touch with some I hadn't spoken with in years. Hopefully they'll make it to the next party. This Saturday in fact. I'm hoping to have a 35mm camera as well as my digital camera there for the party this time to help complete my wall of photos. Perhaps I can convince Lucas to help with that part since he's such an avid photographer. Tater is too for that matter so maybe I'll solicit his hand in that too. Patrick currently hates me since he found out I just got my ram in today. This brings my workstation up to 448 megs of ram. The server will get the leftovers again. Dork. I had another thought about the joys of driving the other day. I -love- to drive fast. I hate doing anything but drive fast. In fact, I have been known to get headaches as a result of driving the speed limit for too long. Sounds pretty lame, right? When I'm speeding and driving wild, I feel like I am most in control of my life. This is because when you feel like your life is most in jeopardy, then life becomes more precious and your perception of control over your life becomes that much more acute. Passing people left and right makes you feel like you are really getting somewhere that much quicker than everyone else and making real progress towards something immanent better and faster than anyone else. It feels good. That, and the adrenaline rush from the fear of getting caught by the police can bring about quite a buzz. As much as I enjoy it so and feel that it is a very strong part of who I am, I sometimes secretly wish I would grow up enough to calm down my driving somewhat. I mean come on. 34 speeding tickets is enough already! One of these days I would like to NOT have a speeding ticket in my glove box waiting for pay day. That, and even the joy of watching the reactions of insurance agents who pull up my driving record can amuse me any more. Mmmm... Snickers...
18:02EST-SAT-3/17/2001
- Underwear gnomes are a bitch. Not only did they do all that other crap, they succeeded in making me sick. I'm feeling loads better now though so hopefully I'll be in top shape by tonight when we are supposed to celebrate St. Patrick's day. Laying in bed for the better part of the week has given me time to think about all sorts of craziness while I was fevered. At more than one occasion, I had reconsidered the value of my life and my plans for the illusion of future. Everyone likes to think that their lives had an impact. Similar trains of thought have led me to consider complete changes in career to something more rewarding like being a fireman or joining the peace corps or something like that. What else is there for me to do? I've been told that I would be a good radio or TV personality and I do so love Conan O'Brian. Oh well. The air waves don't need another overbearing asshole. I'll look elsewhere.
19:43EST-TUE-3/13/2001
- It's a conspiracy I tell ya... First I wake up half an hour before my alarm only to find out I didn't set it ahead enough to do anything productive before work. I tried to pay the cable bill but they were closed. I tried to mail off the check to the phone company but I was out of stamps. The post office was closed. The power company will have to wait until I had time to drive all the way out there before they could flog me for late charges. The water company closes a full hour before I ever wake up too. I tried burning some CDs for a friend and ran out of time on the last disk so I had to leave before it was even done with the testing cycle. Oh, and I think I'm getting sick. Normal people would think these all coincidence or simple bad luck but I KNOW BETTER! I've seen the underwear gnomes ducking behind corners and diving out of windows before I could get to them and find out what terrible mischief they were up to. I'll bet they were setting all the clocks in the house backwards so I thought I had more time and then changed them back while I was in the shower. Pesky gnomes... One of them probably sneezed on my pillow.
0:51EST-TUE-3/13/2001
- YES! It's finally out! It's finally out! No, not Neverwinter Nights, unfortunately. Infiltration version 2.85! This is the release with all the online code. Mmmmm... I see a LAN party in my future.
22:22EST-MON-3/12/2001
- I'm telling you, I'm going to be a rich man. I'm the laziest daydreaming inventor since my father. I'd like to invent a couch that automatically collects loose change from its cracks, counts it, and rolls it for you. I will get your pennies!
22:06EST-MON-3/12/2001
- Damn, sometimes I love being single. I get more rest that way. I find it weird that when I go to bed, I curl up around a big fluffy pillow and hold it while I sleep. For a while I took this to mean that I was lonely but I don't know how true that is. I've never been able to really sleep with anyone else in the bed with me. I am always super self-conscious of my movements and the position I'm trying to sleep in. I'm a tosser. I flail around in my sleep and wake up in strange positions the next morning that would rival a cats flexibility. I'm not actually very flexible so either I'm contorting in superhuman ways in my sleep or someone is kicking my ass and casually tossing me back into bed. Both would explain the occasional marks I wake up with and the strained muscles. I actually sprained my ankle while sleeping one time. I'm such an athlete... Anyway, I have only been able to sleep comfortably with one person and that was after dating and living with the person for 3.5 months. No sooner did I finally become able to sleep soundly with her in bed with me, but we both move our separate ways. During visits, I'm back to where I started. This means that I probably won't be able to sleep normally until after being married for quite some time. No, I take that back. With my attitude and conviction during arguments, I'll be sleeping on the couch so much I'll never get used to sleeping in the same bed as anyone else until I become good husband material. Mental note: get a really cozy couch.
18:55EST-FRI-3/9/2001
- Wow, I have to thank Amanda for sending in this link: DCALCODA appears to have made an app called Spell Magic that does on-the-fly spell checking regardless of program you are currently running. I'll test it out some this weekend and let everyone know how it goes.
0:56EST-FRI-3/9/2001
- Man, I just love online comics. They tend to be so much better than anything you find in a Sunday newspaper. That, and there is more realism since they aren't candy coated for the media. Bad language, occasional animated nudity, guns, computer jokes, long term plot lines, cliff-hangers, color and FLASH! Here, check out Cigarro and Cerveja. Almost as harsh as
Penny Arcade but less computer jokes. None, in fact. Oh well. You can't have everything. In the mean time, check out Dilbert,
User Friendly,
Red Meat,
Sluggy Freelance,
Sinfest,
Rusty Shrapnel,
Shaw Island,
Joy of Tech,
Zark, and the immortal
Joe Cartoon.
18:29EST-WED-3/7/2001
- Well the proles (not poles) have spoken. The poll about how people interpret me has yielded the following results: Tied for first place was that I was either gay or a really nice guy hiding behind a mask of evil. Second place went to my being a loser. Third was that I was a slacker and then an asshole being fourth. Obviously I don't come off as being enough of an asshole on this page. Oh well, I'm not going to change that for any reason or any person but me. That and I am too lazy and don't care enough to do another major overhaul. Cope. Don't force me to start talking about all my interior design ideas or preference in cologne. Oh, wait! If women think I'm gay, they'll find me unthreatening and try to hang out with me... I prefer Hugo Boss and I like indirect lighting. In the mean time, check THIS out.
20:49EST-TUE-3/6/2001
- I am -so- hyped! I was talking to Patrick last night and now he's all excited about the new additions to the house that we're planning on adding to the house. I never knew how much I really enjoyed playing with wood and working with my hands.
........Perverts. It is no secret that I enjoy that too, but right now I'm referring to carpentry. One of the additions is going to be a super-fly 2 car garage with another room on top of it. One LARGE room. Do you know how much fun a large Romping Room is? TONS!!! That, and it will be perfect for LAN parties (Shhh... Lucas doesn't know yet). Oh, and Jami... I WILL GET YOUR PENNIES!
23:30EST-MON-3/5/2001
- I can relate to this. Sooner or later, remind me to post my huge list of kick-ass online comics that I frequent on an almost daily basis. They are much much fun. Definitely better than you find in the Sunday paper.
19:58EST-MON-3/5/2001
- Oh my god this is funny! Once again, I have fallen prey to game geek humor. Here, check it out. Game Mark. On a more serious note, I finally got around to installing and running the Aids@home client I was talking about back in November. So far, I'm pleased with it and I have it now running 24/7 on both my workstation and the server. CPU usage has skyrocketed but the memory usage is nominal. I guess it's about time to do another upgrade to the server. Perhaps it's finally time to get an Athlon rig.
