Boys Don't Cry 1. My student spotted me, he was seated at the couch… moved so I could seat. “How are you?” he asked me. I laughed. “What?” he asked again. “Nick just dumped me,” I said still not able to help but laugh. “You got dumped?” he asked to know if he heard it right. I nodded still with a smile. “Shouldn’t you be sad about it?” he asked, bewildered. “I know,” I said and laughed again. Silence. My laugh was gone. “Okay lang yan,” he said, “Mataba naman siya, mukha pang pustiso ngipin niya.” “Oh, no…” I stopped him. “We are not to speak shit about him…” “But it’s true,” he countered, “I don’t know nga eh what you seen in him…” “I don’t know either but not because he doesn’t love me back, I no longer love him…” “So, I still need to be careful what I say about him in front of you…?” “I leave for Boracay this Tuesday… I’d be gone for three months…” I told him. “This Tuesday?” he asked surprise. “Yah…” I answered, “and I need you to keep an eye on him…” “You mean, I report to you everything he does while you’re gone?” “No…” that’s freaky, I thought, “just look after him…” “And how do you suppose I do that, play Nancy Drew?” “Just if you can do anything to make sure he is okay… I would appreciate it man…” Silence… “What you do for him, you do it for me…” I said, almost pleading. “I don’t owe you any favor,” he said, “…but I would for you…” “Thank you…” I said smiling and took his hand to squeeze. “Bakit pa kasi siya pa…” he said, “madami namang iba dyan…” he then stood up and went to make his rounds. |
