Tatra Sutra: Click to go HOME

ShuttleFrom England and Germany Aero from England or Germany. Mine is made in Germany, but there are some from England. Also see the Pony Aero-type shuttle. What makes this shuttle great is the bobbin and the hook. The bobbin is ratcheted, so it clicks on its spool, rather than just spinning. What is nice about hook it is that it is actually rounded like a real crochet hook, not a 2-dimensional flat hook like on the Boye and Susan Bates Metal shuttles. This is a really nice shuttle, maybe my favorite of the bobbin shuttles. No surprise that it is avery popular among tatters!

Working with bobbins is a great time saver. You can pre-wrap your bobbins, and have them ready. The only down-side to bobbin-shuttles ( and that means it's the up-side to open-ended center-post shuttles) is that although it's easy to unroll the thread, it's a bit harder to reroll the thread onto the bobbin while working (for me at least)--whereas with an open ended shuttle, you can just click it back onto the center post. You know how annoying taking up the slack on your shuttle thread is, when you go from tatting a ring to tatting a chain, right? Or is it just me? I always forget to do it before I wrap my pinky for a chain, and then I make a big tangle.

Face off!Face off! - Pony versus Aero! East versus West! These shuttles have been having a stare down for the longest time, and neither one wants to give up that tat! Who will win? I should sell tickets!!
