 Black Abalone - From Catchpin in
Seattle, WA.
My parents got this for me along with quite a few others when they went to Seattle to visit family in June.This is a small shuttle, about 2 1/4 inches. It is wonderfully smooth. Abalone is a shell. This "Black Abalone" is very dark teal blue green, and the lighter spots are the pale beige luminescent color of mother of pearl. It is a really beautiful shuttle. Since it is a natural material, it is not quite even. I used very fine sandpaper to adjust the tips and edges so they were more even. This helped to make winding thread easier, as well as making it a little less distracting to hold. I used this shuttle to tat my Black Magic edging, and I really enjoyed using it! It opened up my eyes to the world of 2 1/8 inch no-spike shuttles! I ordered another abalone shuttle after that! I have not seen this type of abalone sold elsewhere, but that's not to say it is not.
