Maple, Handmade by Tighe My boyfriend Tighe made this shuttle for me. He carved it out of a sold piece of maple, using the Addi as a model.
Then, since the tips were not touching, he clamped it into shape and steamed it. As you can see, it did a fine job of closing the
tips. They are open just a bit, a millimeter or two, so the thread can pass through, but it does not "click". I had no problem though.
He chose the color of thread, and wound it up to show it to me. I don't usually tat with cross stitch embroidery floss, but
it was lying around so he used it. I rewarded him by tatting that little bit of edging, to
show my
appreciation!! (Hen-and-Chicks pattern)
I was so excited to see what it would look like when it was completed, and a finish put on it.
He did such a great job on it, and he did it because he loves me and my tatting hobby. That's what makes the ending to this
story so sad. Click for the inevitable
