Tatra Sutra: Click to go HOME

ShuttleSilent Tatter from England. This shuttle is crafted by a Mr. Eddie Clarke. I believe he made it after having a discussion with his wife concerning her tatting shuttles. While it is similar to the GR8 Brothers shuttle, it does have a shape and style all its own. It is longer and slimmer, and the bobbin tension mechanism is different. My boyfriend Tighe was very impressed with this shuttle, and said that Mr. Clarke must be a machinist because the parts were made specifically for the shuttle, and fit it perfectly. I have been told that he is actually an engineer. Well, this shuttle has been engineered quite well, and the tensioning is perfect. It is a joy to tat with, so much so that I have ordered another.

The wood is Piqua Amarillo with an ebony dot inlay. Doesn't it look like a little mouse? It has a hook, but can be ordered without. It comes with its own mini screwdriver to remove or adjust the bobbin. The shuttle measures about 2.5" from end to end, without the hook. the hook is a tiny 3/8". The width is j-u-s-t over 1/2 inch, but if I include the bobbin, which overhangs out the sides, it is about 7/8". The height (the side with the ebony "eye") is 5/8". That's as in from top to bottom through the hole of the bobbin.

I purchased this shuttle from Roseground Tatting and Lacemaking supplies, where Pat Hallam was extremely helpful and friendly throughout the whole shopping experience!
