Tatra Sutra: Click to go HOME

ShuttleGR8 Brothers Antler -From Catchpin in Seattle, WA. My parents got this for me along with quite a few others when they went to Seattle to visit family in June.

This shuttle was made from an antler of a moose or elk, that was picked up from the forest floor by Randy Houtz, one of the "GR8 Shuttle Brothers", who is also a forest ranger. It is a nice beige flecked bone color. Gary and Randy make these unique shuttles from wood as well.

The bobbin is removed for winding thread as well as adjusted for tension by screwing the screw on the underside of the shuttle. It has a nice little nubby hook for joins. It is not as 'hooked' as the Aero, so if your Aero hook frays the thread, this might be better for you.

It took a little bit of practice to get the thread tension down, but then it was smooth sailing. This is a small chunky little shuttle, and it fits through the ring nicely. I LOVE to tat with it, and it is my only antler shuttle, which also makes it special!

I am using my GR8 to tat "Curds and Whey" by Mary Konior.

Update 07/2000 -- I just purchased a Silent Tatter tatting shuttle, which is similar in design to the GR8 - Take a look!
