- Did you all miss me? No? Fine! Be that way. I'm going to write ANYWAY. =P
Seriously, the fact that my friends and random strangers still read this web site astounds me greatly. I mean, c'mon! Did you see how many months I couldn't care less about writing? Actually, that's not entirely true. I've had more than one occasion where I thought about something I wanted to write about but mostly they were right as I was about to fall asleep. You know how that goes. You're aaaaalmost asleep and suddenly you have this great idea and you say to yourself Hey, that's good. I'll have to remember that in the morning just as the sandman pulls up your blankets and nods you off to sleep.
Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure he does unspeakable things to you afterwards because you wake up the next morning feeling a little uncomfortable and don't remember anything, especially your good idea. Oh well, maybe you'll remember it tonight...
More than once I've gone so far as to write down a brief note on my hand to remind me in the morning but I can never make out what the hell I was thinking about as I look down at my hand and wonder Why did I write anagram on my hand?
Still, I actually do have something to share with you today. Actually, Julie reminded me and since I actually have a few minutes, I'll waste a few of yours talking about guns again. Hooray beer! I mean, uh, guns! A couple days ago I took a day off from EVE and actually made it to ORSA. This trip was far more successful than the one last week where I tore the house apart trying to find my membership card. I found the key, the envelope it came in, the letter that accompanied it, and everything else but not the card itself. Oh well. I drove out to the range without it hoping that it would not become an issue. It didn't. As I was driving to O.R. I remembered a couple of other things I needed to do first like get my hair cut, renew my tags, etc etc. It seemed like there was a complication to everything and I was starting to think about bad omens. Maybe I shouldn't go shooting today. I got to the gate and discovered that I could not find the key I had found earlier. Dammit! I wound up forgetting it by my computer. Grrr. Oh well, it was raining anyway.
This trip was far more successful. Julie gave in and let me take her shooting. This was great for me because everyone knows that chicks with guns are just hawt! She even has her own guns now. A Ruger 10/22 in stainless steel just like mine was/is and a Beretta .380 Model 84. (Interesting trivia, you know the scene in The Matrix when Trinity jumps off the roof into a window and drops the mags from her pistols? Yeah, those were both Beretta Model 84s. Rar!) Julie did pretty good for her first trip shooting. She is still kind of nervous about the actual handling of the guns, but that'll soon fade as she becomes accustomed to recoil. She enjoyed the 10/22 very much. I'm glad. Everyone should love the 10/22 and I still believe that everyone should be given one at birth. We set up some cans on the ORSA plinking range at ranges varying from really close to the furthest we could put them. We shot through several mags and a great time was had by all. She is still trying to get the hang of iron sights but this, I think, has more to do with her cheek weld and the low profile sights. Hell, I have a high cheek bone and it's difficult even for me after all these years. I have to make sure to force my face down onto that stock good and firm before I can line them up right. After a while, I moved her up to the .22 pistol but she was not as fond of it as the rifle. That's understandable. Hitting things with a pistol is hard for anyone who doesn't practice a lot, no matter what you see in the movies. Her nervousness did not keep her from trying out her new Model 84 but it was getting late and we were both covered in perspiration and called it a night before we put too much lead down range. Still, for a first day out she did really good and I'm very proud of her. I enjoy having things that we both enjoy doing. I am very passionate about guns and shooting so you can imagine how it warmed my heart to hear that she had a good time and would like to go again. Currently we try to go hiking on Sundays (our mutual day off) but maybe one day I can talk her into trading a day of hiking for a day at the range. I have a lot more guns that need to get dusted off and I want to see how she reacts to things that actually make big booms.
