The league was polled after the draft as to who had the best draft. The
consensus by a long shot was Outlaw. Solid at every position, the only reach
was a second round pick of a rookie running back named Edgerrin James. At the
end of the season, Outlaw was backing into the playoffs with only getting
consistent production from one player, Edgerrin James.
Outlaw was consistently inconsistent. In week 1, he easily rolled over
Talbot and then was shot down by Bud. A week 3 rematch of the 98
Super Bowl versus with the Mo-ha was a gift win as Moha left 50 on the pine.
Week 4, a loss to Best, a win over CZ in week 5, but only 24-22. A loss to
Barry, and a 37-36 squeaker loss to Jackson. So much potential to squander?
The suddenly, fortunes changed. Outlaw netted 72 in a win over Stroupe.
A momentary set back in scoring 40 in a loss to Peil. Then a convincing
thumping of JK. Then the crowning moment, a 59-40 shellacking of
Wallace in week 11. Suddenly, Outlaw had returned to possibly become a force
in the Central, long thought to have been locked up by Wallace and Bud.
Then week 12. A shocking loss to lowly Talbot. In week 13, a loss to Bud
made ironic by who was on Outlaw's bench, on the splinter squad:
Jerry Rice and Dan Marino. Perhaps the two must productive BRFL players of
all time. In week 14, Wallace won by almost the reverse of the week 11 score.
However, those four hot weeks going into division play put Outlaw into the
playoffs as a points qualifier and as the eighth seed.
The opponent in the first round was Wallace. They met for the third time
in five weeks. Wallace ended Outlaw's season 46-36.
