It was perhaps one of the worst season in years in the BRFL. You had to go
back to the early 90s. Bratcher's give up season of 1992. The twin disasters
that were Howigon and Ruffin in 1991. Talbot seemed to have a pretty good
draft, but it was the alltime bust and hard luck teams of all time. An
examination of his drafted starters: Jamal Anderson, hurt in week 2, out for
the season. Ricky Watters, scored his his TD in week 9, Robert Smith scored
in week 16, JJ stokes week 14 and Frank Sanders week 17! Arizona's Jake
Plummer is hurt for most of the season and kicker Richie Cunningham
was so bad, he was cut in week 14.
After six week, Talbot hadn't scored more than 18 points. Best scored 19
against him in week 7, thought to be enough, but Talbot scored 47. One
week of glory and it was back to mediocrity until a stunning upset of Bud
in week 11. As bad as he was, Talbot did manage to beat both Super Bowl
teams. Another win in week 12 over Outlaw and Talbot was suddenly a spoiler.
The Talbot of old seemed to be back, Winning those critical December games.
He nearly beat Wallace in week 13, falling 39-36. The season ended with a
67-3 humiliation by Bud. The second worst drubbing in league history.
Talbot's
276 points scored this season were the worst since reliable points stats were first
kept in 1992. There can only be better days ahead for this perrenial league
power.
